The hostel we stayed was almost right next to Edinburgh Castle! You can actually see the castle in the bottom right corner.
Edinburgh Castle. It’s so old and so big. We have spent 5 hours exploring it!
Standing in the heart of Edinburgh! 🙂
The Sir Walter Scott monument. Definitely my favorite monument in Edinburgh.
A bagpipe player. You see and hear them everywhere and all day!

This weekend I was present at the Castlefest for three days to promote and sign my Dutch fantasy book.
It was awesome! 🙂
So, what is the Castlefest exactly?
Castlefest is a medieval/fantasy festival in Holland, held on the first weekend of August in the gardens of Castle Keukenhof in Lisse since 2005. The festival takes part during 3 days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and includes a fantasy market, Life Acting Roleplaying Games, workshops, a lot of bands and eating and drinking medieval.
I go there with friends and family every year but this year is the first time I am participating as a writer! 🙂
It’s a awesome festival where everyone can be themselves, no matter how crazy that may seem to the rest of the world. It’s very relaxed and there is never any trouble whatsoever.
Check out the photos! 🙂
My books! 🙂 A Dutch fantasy book called Drägan Duma and my poetry book My Wings.
The weather was awesome, so I decided to wear Light on day 1.
Well hello mister giant! 🙂
There are a lot of shows to see this weekend.
People dress up for this event. Some in fantasy, others in medieval.
Danny is handling the promotion! 🙂
And I sign the books! 🙂
Lots of music too. This bagpipe player was awesome. When he played, flames would come out of the pipes!
Dancing by the flowers! 🙂
My pet dragon is guarding the books! 🙂

Tragedies are common these days. Disasters as well.
On July 17th our country and many others got hit by a tragedy when a civilian airplane was shot down.
298 innocent souls lost within seconds…
193 Dutch people.
And if that wasn’t enough, we had great problems to get the remains of our people back to our country.
Our minister gave a really impressive speech about bringing back our people before the UN.
You can read and listen to it right HERE (the speech is in English)
On July 23rd the first of the coffins finally arrived in Holland.
Our country held a National Mourning Day on this day and the whole country including swimming pools, traffic and all other activities stopped for a moment throughout the country when the plane landed.
Here are a couple of photos made by the Dutch news about the ceremony and the transport of the remains.
A man holding the Dutch flag which is on half staff, like all the flags in Holland this day, watching the plane coming.
Flowers by the Dutch embassy in Ukraine.
The coffins with the remains of the victims.
The funeral procession heading towards Hilversum where the identification process will begin.
I cried when I watched this, like I silently cry for humanity on so many occasions.
What is it that makes people so violent against each other?
I just don’t understand…
Today, our government is debating how we can get the rest of the remains safely home because at this moment the crash site is still a warzone and there are still remains there. But they promised the people of our country that they will do everything possible to get all the remains home.
Look into my eyes
Share a little love
How hard can it be?
I look in your eyes
You’re not so different from me
You have hopes, you have dreams
Just like me
I look in your eyes
Like everyone, you just want to be free
You may speak a different language
And you may have a different color than me
But when I look in your eyes
It’s just another soul I see
These wars, this hate, this violence
Can’t you see?
When you look into my eyes
All that we are killing is humanity…
So share some love
How hard can it be?
Look into each other’s eyes
And let’s stand together, you and me
On the 4th of July, my big sister turned 50!
Reason enough to give her something very special.
My nephews decided to give their mother something she wanted for a long time: A nice photo shoot of her three handsome sons.
So, on a Sunday morning at 8 am (omg!), my nephews and I went to the nearby park to make the photos.
I think they turned out great! 🙂
My sister was very happy and emotional. It was the best gift her boys could have given her!
These are a couple of the photos, hope you like them!

The Parkpop festival is a free music festival held annually on the last Sunday of June in the city of The Hague, Netherlands.
I am lucky to live about a 15 to 20 minutes walk away from it. 🙂
It was first held in 1981 and attended by 35,000 visitors. Today up to 350,000 people visit the festival every year. They hold the title for largest free pop festival in Europe for a long time.
We go almost every year because it’s a very relaxed festival and the weather is usually good.
This time, Parkpop was extra special because for the first time in history the music stopped so the people could watch the soccer game Holland versus Mexico in the World Cup tournament.
Usually, you see people dressed up in all kinds of weird clothes and stuff. But this year, most of us were dressed in Orange!
Relax and enjoy this photo shoot!
The Parkpop festival has also a market.
It’s held on a big field in the middle of the ‘Zuiderpark’ and has 3 stages where different bands play.
It’s very normal to sit down or lay down with a couple of friends to enjoy the music and the weather.
Some bands make a really nice show. You can also follow on the big screens on the sides of the stages.
What shoes to wear… Most people walk barefoot or on flip-flops.
The music has stopped. All gathering for the big match!
It stayed 0-1 for Mexico for a long time. We were so nervous about that! Until Sneijder scored the 1-1! We were so relieved!
It started to rain but nobody cared! We were singing and chanting for our country.
And there it was! Holland got a penalty! The winning goal from Huntelaar!
Screaming on the top of our lungs. We won!!!!
After the game, a new band started to play and we all danced. With beer of course! Lol! 😉
Time to party big time!
Sure was a great day! Music, dancing and a winning game for Holland!
Lots of love
Yesterday our Dutch lions managed to win the soccer match against Spain with 5-1!!!!
This is so awesome! 🙂
Of course I had to shoot some photos to capture this epic moment.
All dressed up and ready for the game!
Of course we are confident that we can win this match!
Watching on the big screen.
Wearing our colors with pride!
It didn’t start well. We got 1-0 behind because of a penalty that wasn’t right. But then Robin van Persie made this EPIC goal!
What immediately makes us scream our ass off!
Eventually, we won the game with 1-5!!!!! How awesome is that? 🙂
Everything turns orange!
Have to celebrate! Turn up the music!
Got our own DJ’s 🙂
And of course our own beer! 😉
So never ever underestimate the Dutch Lion!
Or Lioness lol! 😉
Lots of Love from Holland!
Today will be the start of the World Championship of soccer. 🙂
In Holland we adore soccer, especially when it’s the World Championship or the European Championship.
These weeks Holland will be colored Orange to support our players. We will watch soccer together, have soccer parties and celebrate big time when our country manages to win a game.
Why orange you ask? Because it’s the last name of our royal family, ‘van Oranje’ what means from Orange.
I am really looking forward to the World Championship, not only because I love soccer but also because I love the fun times that goes with it.
Here are a couple of photos to show you guys what I mean.
When walking through my neighborhood, you will see a lot of houses and streets decorated wit orange to show support to the national team.
Of course there will also be a lot of flags hanging above the streets. Mainly our own red, white and blue, but also of the country hosting the championship.
Even inside the houses there are a lot of decorations.
The Dutch lion appears on a lot of decorations. It’s our national weapon. As you can see, we have our own all orange little lion! 🙂
Dressing up in orange before the game

Wearing the color with pride! 🙂
