A review of ‘My Whisperings’ by Philip Fontana

My Whisperings, by Just Patty.

My whisperings is her second book of poetry in English since her first successful My Wings.

Much has changed since then. Patty is now an award winning novelist, having won the Hebban Fantasy Award for third best fantasy novel 2014 written in her native Dutch. The award is for her first in the trilogy, Dragan Duma – Zij Die Hoort. The second is Dragan Duma – Bondgenoten & Verraders. – – Third to come!

What is different here in My Whisperings from her first 100 plus poems in My Wings: My Dark Wings & My Light Wings?

My Whisperings is the evolving poet Patty with her 80 Poems and her, unusual for a poetry book, 20 untitled “Shorts,” and once again with photographic artwork made by and of herself. By “evolving” I speak factually having charted each and every poem as, in my opinion, “Dark,” “Light,” or “Grey.”
What I found was that Patty stayed true to her Dark poetic base, clocking in with more “Ds” for her Dark poetry. But I say “evolving” because I charted more “Ls” for Light poems and more “Gs” for Grey poems than in her previous poetry book. And in a number of cases, while the poems were for the most part Dark, they contained strong Light and Grey elements as well.

With My Whisperings I was hard put to pick favorites with the ups and downs of emotions; “fear, pain, loss, anxiety, hope, joy, love, strength, courage,” and so much more.

I love too many of these poems to do so. Perhaps that is because the poems are so strong of will, dedicated by Patty to “all those who are fighting a battle against Depression, PTSD, Self-Harm or any other visible or invisible condition.”

And so the titles are poetry themselves and convey the book’s strength. Can you hear the evolving poetry of Patty in Dark, Light, and Grey in these titles?
“This Time,” “Whisperings,” “Covered in darkness,” “Erotic Dancer,”  “Salvation,” “Angel of Death,” “Don’t make me into something I’m not,” “When you’re looking down, “Survive the night,” “Black Rose,” “Beautiful Deception,” “Let’s pretend,” “On the line,” “Love Me,” “Hush,” “Summer Love,” “I can’t break free,” “It’s not too late,” “The End,” “The Warrior.”

These are the “best of the best,” among all the great poems here, for this reader, who Patty has made a fan of her Dark poetry.

Second Blogoversary!

Hey everyone!

As WordPress so kindly brought to my attention, it’s my second year of blogging this month.

Darn! Time really flies huh?

Another year of writing and sharing with you all…

So what did I do this year of blogging?

Well, it’s a lot as I think about it!

As of  the end of this week, I’ll have published four books, two poetry books in English (which you can find HERE) and two Fantasy books in Dutch (which you can find HERE, sorry it’s in Dutch lol)

I also received an award for my first fantasy book and that still sweeps me of my feet! 🙂

Also got to know more awesome people and worked together with them on poems and stuff. Lots of fun! 🙂

Still working on dealing with my PTSD, healing from my last experience and trying to help others in the process. That’s why I started a new blog right HERE.

I couldn’t have done this all without you guys.

An update

Hey everyone,

Just a little update to let you all know how I’m doing.

Thank you all so much for your sweet and supportive messages. It fills my heart with warmth and my soul with strength.

I am doing better, the bruises and wounds are healing nicely. Just the concussion is still bothering me and I can’t stay behind the computer for very long because of this.

Good news though! On March 16th, my second fantasy novel will be published in Holland so I have something positive to focus on.

Always have to look for the bright things in life, right?

So, that’s what I am doing now. I am focusing on my fantasy novel while I heal.

And I am starting a new blog and Facebook page as well, that will be mainly about dealing with PTSD, depression and any other related subjects. If you want to take a look, this is the blog: http://www.neverhowlalone.wordpress.com

After this, I will return to keep writing on this blog of course.
